Let Us Define What is Keyword Density

densityToday I’m going to share with you an SEO term, it’s called “Keyword Density.” Chances are you’ve already encountered this term in the web and if you’re not totally familiar with it, keep on reading to know it’s definition, it’s importance and how it affects searches made by internet users. Will one of your article make it to the top list of search results, read on to find out.

What is Keyword Density

In my previous article How to Write an SEO Article we discussed to use keywords relevant to your niche blog when writing your major articles. This will increase the likelihood of your website being listed by search engines on top results when someone searches for those keywords in the internet. Now we are going to discuss the number of times we have to use those keywords before search engines recognize them as relevant to searches made by internet users. So to give definition, the number of times your keywords or keyword phrase was used in proportion to the total number of words that appear on a single web page is called Keyword Density.

What is the Proper Keyword Density to Use?

Keyword Density is calculated by dividing the number of times your keywords were used by the total number of words in a web page multiplied by 100, or it can be shown in the formula below:

(number of times keywords are used) / (total number of words in a web page) x 100 (source: Keyword Density – Wiki)

This is very important according to SEO experts because a less use of your keywords and your web page, content or article will get no search results or used more and search engines will penalize it as spamming. There are different opinions on what is the proper keyword density to be used, some say 1 – 3 percent while other say 5 percent or less is safe enough to be used without calling the attention of search engines. On the other hand there are those that say Keyword Density is no longer given much importance by search engines as the way they once did. But whatever the belief is, search engines will have its own way in knowing what will be the relevant keywords in a given content of a web page.

Conclusion

So now that we know what Keyword Density is all about what do we have to conclude? In my personal opinion, I have not found any concrete documentation regarding the optimum keyword density to be used. But no matter what, search engines will always calculate the relevance of your keywords to your article and decide if they will be relevant in showing them to internet users. For me as a blogger, I will of course prioritize my readers while actively using my selected keywords. Whether I will use my keywords too much or use them too little as long as what my article wishes to convey reaches my targeted audience is what matters most. And it is up for the search engines to decide if they will list my web site at the top results when someone searches my keywords in the internet or not.
