Do Outbound Links Lessen Your PageRank?

outbound linkYou might as well know by now that our site’s PageRank improves as we acquire more quality backlinks from other reputable sites. Quality backlinks are considered votes and will be used by Google in computing a site’s PR and it takes lot of effort, time and money to get a reputable PageRank. But what about outbound links, if incoming inks increase our web pages’ PR do outgoing links to other websites decrease it?

It Will Not Affect Your PageRank

You heard it right, the PR of your web page will not be affected even if you place outgoing links to other websites. You worked hard to acquire good quality backlinks so Google rewards you with a high PR and its yours to keep, no one can take it away from you just try to maintain it, link building is a continuous process. That’s good news, unless Google has changed its algorithm, the PR of your web page will not be affected no matter how many outbound links you place on it, just make sure you are not linking to sites which are unfavorable to Google. So don’t be concerned about your PR when you want to link to other websites, this is encouraged specially if you found some useful sites or articles you want to share with your readers, and if you are in doubt, use the “nofollow” attribute in your link.

Use Your PageRank Wisely

So don’t be afraid about losing your PR, make your articles as informative as possible, when you quote, link its source. If you want to share informative posts, articles, or websites to your readers place links to the source freely. If people want to guest post as long as it passes your guidelines, I encourage you to accept guest bloggers. But don’t be tempted to do unethical things because of your high PR like selling links, it’s prohibited by Google, you are only allowed to sell links if you use the “nofollow” attribute. Acquiring a good PR is not an easy task, it takes a lot of effort, determination, patience and creativity but the benefits are very rewarding.
